Mom's Hello...

Hello again friends…

Sorry for the late night post, but with the weekend here I wanted to reach out with a quick (yeah, right) update…

I apologize for the ‘radio silence’ this week, but as you can imagine, there’s so much to do in the wake of the loss of Mama Bird...and she'd want me to, "Prioritize Jeff-er-rey!"

In the coming days, weeks, months I will begin adding many of the innumerable pictures, videos and other memories of Mom to our Facebook Timelines as well as the CaraParrots.com website.

BUT…something happened Thursday evening that would’ve given Rod Serling the chills….and I’ve been chewing on how to post it here ever since.

For the past 14 days (…my God…it’s been 14 days already) I’ve been looking for hope & encouragement every second since Mom’s passing…or as most people would say…I've been looking for a "sign."

Well since Sunday morning, October 8th I’ve had more than a few “Hellos” from Mom that I’d like to share with you…

  • Ever since Mom passed…the street light in front of the house has been out…the only one on the block that’s been out…and yes, it was ON on 10/7/17 the night before Mom passed.

  • Last Friday the 13th…(”dun…dunn…dunnnnnn!”) I was on the back porch around 9am preparing for another day of red-tape filled, super-STRESS-ifragilistic-expialidocious calls to many of our country’s finer bureaucratic institutions…that’s when I looked up and saw a lone migrating Monarch butterfly flying thru Barb’s driveway garden "butterfly truck-stop" for a snack on it’s 3000k mile trek to either California, Florida or Mexico…The Monarch is Barb’s favorite butterfly.

  • The following night, Saturday 10/14/17 around 11:30pm the ‘first’ epiphyllum cactus bloomed (as I posted on fb) …out of season (at least for us here in Illinois) …and for only one night.

That brings us to the night before last, Thursday 10/19/17…

...I had come upstairs to spend some time in the serenity of Mom’s greenhouse, as well as to check to make sure the heater was working with the temps dropping to the mid 50’s.

When I walked in I got a whiff of a familiar smell…the same smell from the previous Saturday night on the back porch…the smell of an epiphyllum cactus bloom…but this time it was TWO blooms!

I immediately, went back downstairs to grab my camera. When I returned I spent about 20 minutes or so just sitting there…looking at these beautiful flowers that Mom had so patiently waited for years to see bloom...for only one night.

As I sat there taking in their unbelievable aroma as it spread throughout the room, I started to cry because my Mom wasn't here to witness the reward for her years of nurturing her "green kids."

After having "my moment," I began taking some pictures around 9:23pm according to the time stamp on my camera.

I had just taken a few shots (…with my camera! ..trust me I’m loooong overdue for the other kind) when the thought, “shoot some video” popped into my head.

…and so I did.…and the rest…well, after watching the video below (specifically at :43 seconds)...you be the judge.

...I think we got OUR "sign." ;)

Thank you for reading & make sure to tell those you love…you do! <3
